Pipebots initiative was launched in March 2019 as a Programme Grant from the UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC). It revolutionised buried pipe infrastructure management with the development of robots designed to work autonomously in underground pipe networks. This was a collaboration between the University of Sheffield (lead), University of Bristol, University of Birmingham and University of Leeds. The fundamental programme of research finished in February 2025. This website now presents the legacy of this Programme Grant, information on the team initially involved in this research programme and related follow-on projects sponsored by the Ofwat Innovation Fund, UK water utilities and EU Horizon Programme.
